Price is always HUGE consideration for cash-paying patients

There will always be patients who have to shell out hard cash for their prescriptions. Some of these people are just plain old-fashioned poor. Some of them will go without.

This is a travesty in a country that is so rich that the entire world is close to going under because our robustness at consuming their products has slowed down.

We can give these people a hand. We can lead them to lower-priced, more affordable pharmaceuticals that will do the job for them.

Lee Patterson is making it easy for us. He is providing a much needed service. Here is the message he sent to me.

Hi Jim.

I’ve enjoyed reading your column in Drug Topics for some time. I thought you might be interested in a website I started a few months back.

It is www.drugpriceinfo.com.

People can go to the site and look up prescription drugs they are taking. The website then displays the average retail price of the drug along with the prices of a few other drugs in the same medication class. A person can see if there is a much cheaper alternative to the drug they are currently taking.

If there is they can ask their doctor about it at their next appointment.

Thanks for your time.

You know JP. I’d be on the phone to the doctor in 5 minutes. If the change looked good, I’d even argue with the bastard if her ego tries to make the change difficult.

Thanks, Lee.
